Where Life's a BeachThe City of Parksville is an active community blending families with young children, urban professionals, retirees, long-time residents and new arrivals who have chosen to live in Parksville for the quality life, the region's natural environment and developed amenities. An excellent combination of retirement, business and recreational opportunities, facilities and services make Parksville a great place to live, work and play.
Centrally located on the sheltered east coast of Vancouver Island, in the Oceanside region, Parksville enjoys a wealth of natural beauty. The Oceanside region is recognized by UNESCO as one of only seven biospheres in Canada. This designation is based on the marine, alpine and meadow ecosystems coexisting within a small geographic area.
Parksville itself has been described as Canada's Riviera. Few beaches outside Mexico and the Caribbean compare with our kilometres of near perfect sandy beaches at Parksville Bay and Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park. With long sunny days, water temperatures may be as high as 20ºC in the shallows and the flat beaches are safe for everyone in the family, even at high tide. There's space aplenty for barefoot jogging, beach volleyball, impromptu yoga sessions, sunbathing and fun in the sun.
In fact, Parksville is renowned for its quality of life and closeness to nature. The temperate climate allows visitors and residents alike to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities year-round, including golf, hiking, mountain biking, and windsurfing. The 39 acre Community Park in downtown Parksville features a spectacular beachfront and waterfront walkway, sports fields, tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, children's playground and waterpark. There are six golf courses less than thirty minutes apart, for every level of player and budget.
Parksville also boasts many of the urban amenities of a larger city; unique shops, world class spas, arts and cultural events, fine dining and accommodations with a view abound in Parksville. The region is home to 140 annual events and festivals, including the largest Canada Day celebration on Vancouver Island, the Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition, KidFest, Oceanside Overdrive Cruise and Car Show, Brant Wildlife Festival and the Parksville Kitefest.
Offering a strong, stable economy, a full range of municipal services and infrastructure and an exceptional quality of life, Parksville has also consistently been rated as one of the top places to do business in Canada.
Now home to 12,000 residents, the City has grown from its original incorporation as a village in 1945, becoming a town in 1978 and a city in 1981. Each year, Parksville welcomes many tourists and visitors from across Canada, North America and Europe.
